Former Protocol reporter Janko Roettgers has launched Lowpass, a freemium newsletter franchise focused on technology and entertainment. His business model resembles that of former Protocol colleague Tom Krazit, who this month launched a business of his own. Both Janko and Tom suffered rug pulls at Gigaom and Protocol, and both are well-sourced and think strategically, so they will continue to ally and confide in one another.
